Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn M. McCartney will begin at 1:30 pm Friday, March 1, 2019 at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church with Dr. John Temple officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. McCartney, 96, of Meridian, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center of Meridian.
Mrs. McCartney was an active member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, as long as her health permitted. She and her brother were both vying for the title of being the longest consecutive member. She was also an officer in the Civitan Club, where she traveled extensively on club trips. She was known for her generosity and kind and loving spirit. It was important to her to find the good in others along her way in life. She loved music and was a pianist and organist, as well as a vocalist. Evelyn was also an accomplished artist. She loved her Lord first and foremost and spent time daily in Bible study and prayer. She loved her family dearly and reveled in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. McCartney is survived by her children Karen Sansone (Tony); Rolland “Ron” McCartney (Brenda); grandchildren, Patrick Sansone, Danielle Sansone (Matt Phillips), Kristen Avedikian, Dr. Christopher McCartney (Amy), Steven McCartney (Julie), Joey Tidwell, Kimberly Baker, Heather Tidwell, and Traci Winham (Mike Thomas), as well as several great-grandchildren. Siblings, Mary Evans and C. Lamar McDonald, Jr. (Betty). Nieces and Nephews Gail Heitman DeBurgh (Rick), Joy Heitman Keast, Missy McDonald Jennings (Joe), Dr.Bill McDonald (Leslie), Molly McDonald Matheny (Harvey), Kathy Evans Gulledge, Don Evans as well as a host of extended family members.
Mrs. McCartney is preceded in death by her husband, Rolland G. McCartney; daughter, Lynne Winham; parents, C. Lamar McDonald, Sr. and Molly Easterling McDonald; sister, Ouida Heitman (Wallace), brother-in-law, William F. “Pete” Evans, and grandson-in-law, Mark Avedikian.
The family requests memorials be made to Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society or to The Animal Rescue league in lieu of flowers.
