Frances Byrd

Memorial services for Frances Byrd will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Smith officiating, with a private family burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Frances Byrd, age 77, of Meridian passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, at her son’s home in Houston, TX with her family around her.

She lived in Mississippi most of her life and retired from work as a nurse practitioner with the State Health Dept after 25 years.  Fran was active in many community organizations including the MCC Foundation, Lifequest, and Book Club, the Board of Directors for the Meridian Symphony Association, and Friends of the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library.  She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church where she served on the senior adult leadership team.  Fran had a lifelong passion for Christian mission work and was able to travel the world in His service.  She was blessed to be able to sing with the Meridian Symphony Chorus and her beloved church choir.   Fran loved her friends, her travels, her books, and her bunko group.

Survivors include her son, Mark Maffet (Lindsey) of Houston, TX; sister, Doris Merhar (Ken) of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Ronnie Hart (Linda) of Elizabethtown, KY, and Terry Hart (Karin) of Elizabethtown, KY; step-son, Ken Byrd of Meridian, MS; grandchildren, Ava Kate, Olivia, Gracie, Bryce, Chelsea, and Brooke.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years Wadell Byrd; step-daughter, Kathy Nealey; father, Archie Hart; mother, Lucille Hart Evans.
