This is our family graveyard where he will be buried next to his parents and grandparents and his family of the last 150 years. Gary Calvert 82 was born on November 4, 1932 in Kemper County MS and died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Anderson Hospital after a short illness. Survivors are his daughter, Gail Calvert Raper and husband John, of Alexandria, VA; Gary Steven Calvert II and wife Letha, of Siler City, NC, and Chris Calvert and wife Letitia of Boulder, Co. He is also survived by four grandchildren Alexandra of Alexandria, VA and Abigail Raper currently attending Mississippi State; and William and Hayden Calvert of Boulder, CO. He also left five brothers and sisters: Emmett Clark Calvert, Jr, Collinsville; Janice Harrison, Meridian; Evelyn Dearing, Canfield, OH, Hazel and husband Don Milner, Vicksburg and Finis S. Calvert and wife Julia, Pensacola, FL; and fifteen nieces and nephews, many extended family and his well-loved dog Rusty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Clark Calvert Sr. and Nina Tucker Calvert. Gary completed High School in Meridian and then joined the United States Army. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State University and had a career with Tennessee Valley Authority, Ethyl Corporation in Baton Rouge, Mississippi State University, Mt. Pleasant Chemical Plant in TN, and Johnson Controls at Stennis Space Center where his last position was as the safety engineer for the space shuttle engine test stands. After retiring he moved back to his childhood home in Meridian where he has given decades of warm, grumpy service to the community. Dad always had the courage to change and the wisdom to know the difference, and we pray for his serenity with God. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
