Funeral services for Mr. George Alexander “Sonny” Evans, Jr. will be Thursday, April 18th, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Meridian with Dr. Rhett Payne officiating. Burial to follow at Sageville United Methodist Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Evans, 91, of Meridian passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a graduate of Meridian High School and following graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country faithfully during the Korean War. After returning home from the military, he attended Meridian Community College. He recently retired as office manager of the Ellis Optical Shoppe. Mr. Sonny, as all his friends knew him, was a Deacon and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Meridian. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, Ole Miss Sports; and New Orlean Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Evans; children, Nancy Ellis (Terry); Mary Beth Justus (Dr. Bob); Alan Evans (Pat); Randy Evans (Wendy); Danny ”J.D.” Evans; grandchildren, Jon Jon Ellis; Monte Ellis (Grace); Josh Ellis (Cayla); Dr. Brock Martin (Melissa); Alex Martin (Blakely); Allison Brown (Chris); Audrey Norton (Ray); Stafford Justus (Michelle); Maci Manning; Andrew Evans (Hannah); Kelly Evans; Tyler Evans (Sarah); Dustin Evans (Dallas); Dylan Evans; Natalie Evans; great grandchildren, Hadley Ellis; Canton Ellis; Iris Ellis; Arthur Ellis; Nola Grace Ellis; Ferris Martin; Addie Brown; Jackson Justus; Shelby Justus; Brooks Norton; Ella Norton; Mallie Kate Evans; Chloe Evans; Easton Evans; Patton Evans; Violet Gay; sisters, Janet Moore; Mary Lee Webb;
Preceded in death by his parents, George Alexander Evans, Sr. and Helen Louise Evans; brother, Edward Evans; and sister, Margaret Webb.
