George Bernard Shaw

A funeral service for Bernard Shaw will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Destin Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Bernard was called Home on October 24th, 2024, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born November 4, 1939, in Meridian MS. He graduated from Meridian High School where he was a member of the band playing the French horn. Bernard married Shirley Branning from Philadelphia MS in June 1959 then joined the Navy. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy Bernard and Shirley set up residence back in Meridian. Bernard joined the Meridian Fire Department where he worked until his retirement in 1984 as Captain and Fire Prevention investigator. While working at the fire department, He graduated from Meridian Community College with his associate's degree. Following his retirement from the Meridian fire department, Bernard joined the Meridian Naval Air Station as a fireman and continued his career in the Fire Prevention Dept. until his retirement in July of 2002.

Bernard was very active in his church, Trinity Assembly of God where he sang, played the piano, guitar and harmonica on a regular basis. Bernard and Shirley were very active in their church community where they constantly helped those in need. After retirement Bernard visited almost every nursing home in Meridian every week, playing the piano and singing until his health began to decline. This was his heart, to share Jesus and his love of music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annie Shaw of Meridian. Bernard leaves behind his wife, Shirley L Shaw, his sister Barbara Branning, two sons, Eddie W Shaw (Kimberly Shaw), and Craig Shaw (Jocelyn Shaw), Grandchildren, Stephen Shaw, Hannah Shaw and Tyler Shaw, Heather Shappley, Stephanie Snavley, Nick Hudson, Kyle and Kevin Siut. Bernard had 6 great grandchildren, Alayah Shaw, McKenzie Garo, Kailyn Shappley, Norah Shappley, Carter Snavely and Cason Snavely.

The stories of our Dad's love of music, church, ping pong, pool and generosity in helping others over the years has been pouring in and makes our hearts happy.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM at the funeral home prior to the service in the chapel.
