Harold Heaster

December 2, 1934 — November 17, 2018

(December 2, 1934-November 17, 2018)

It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Heaster announces his passing on November 17, 2018, at the age of 83.

Harold was a professional drum player up until he met the love of his life, Barbaree. He always explained that he would rather spend his time with his wife rather than playing the drums.

Harold became the owner of his father’s company, H.L. Heaster. He successfully ran this office supply company, until his retirement in 1980. Eventually, Harold transformed his hobby of amateur radio into a thriving cellular tower business. This led to owning and managing numerous towers in 3 states.

He was a lifetime Mason, serving for over 50 years. It was a great honor when a fellow Mason presented Harold with a 50-year pin.

Harold had a great sense of humor and he kept everyone laughing with his jokes. We can only hope his children, grandchildren, and great-children inherited this wonderful trait.

Harold was known for the love he shared for his family, and also those less fortunate.  He was extremely philanthropic. In the 1980’s, Harold and Barbaree built a facility for Jewish education in Ormond Beach, Florida and donated the use of this building. He enthusiastically supported the United Way, Jewish Federation and his two synagogues (Congregation Beth Israel in Meridian, Mississippi and Temple Beth-El in Ormond Beach, FL).

His parents, Grace and Harold Heaster, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbaree, and his sons Steve (Pam) Heaster, Jeff Heaster, Lewis (Angela) Heaster. Harold will lovingly remembered his eight grandchildren, Danielle Kendall, Adam Heaster, Hilary Heaster, Elizabeth Weishart, Jason Heaster, Simon Heaster, Sarah Heaster and Irvin Heaster. He will also be fondly remembered by his nine great- grandchildren, Gregory, Jonathan, Matthew, Adam, Tyler, Kaelynn, Liam, Garrison, and Isla.

Visitation will be held at Congregation Beth Israel of Meridian, Ms. on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with internment at Beth Israel cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Congregation Beth Israel, P.O. box 3456, Meridian 39303, Temple Beth-El 579 North Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Fl. 32176, or Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties, 470 Andalusia Ave, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174.
