Harriet "Doodle" Heblon

June 2, 1931 — July 7, 2020

Private Graveside services will be conducted at Magnolia Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Jeff Myers officiating. Interment will follow graveside rites. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Harriet “Doodle” Heblon, 89, of Meridian, departed peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

Born June 2, 1931, to Mildred and Harry Lackey, Doodle was a bright, loving soul, a beloved family member, a creative spirit, and a treasured friend. She never met a stranger. She excelled in seeing and surfacing the best in everyone around her, and delighted in bringing joy to others, entertaining, junk shopping, or playing Bridge. Doodle was a devoted mother, a doting grandmother, and an adoring great-grandmother. Her years of service to the 4-year old Sunday school class at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church were some of her fondest memories, and she touched countless lives in her service to teaching children about the Lord.

Doodle could often be found in a floppy hat with a spade in hand, digging in her garden, or singing along with Luther Vandross in her kitchen. She was a 1948 graduate of Meridian High School and attended Meridian Junior College (now Meridian Community College). She was a teacher’s assistant at Oakland Heights Elementary School, and active in her community.

Doodle is survived by her sister, Margaret Lackey Carver, her children, Greg Heblon of Meridian and Kim Heblon Brown of Hattiesburg, as well as five granddaughters, Ashley Heblon Lee, Tate Heblon Taylor (Scott), Felicia Brown-Williams (Andrew), Jessica Brown, and Monica Brown, and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband, Edwin E. Heblon, and her parents Mildred Tate Lackey and Harry N. Lackey.

Her boisterous spirit, infallible honesty, excellent taste in eyewear and infectious laughter will be missed. Doodle will be laid to rest in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to St. Jude’s.

Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com

There will be no public visitation prior to graveside rites.
