Harvey Miles Shirley, Sr.

Funeral services for Harvey Miles Shirley will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 11:00 am at The Episcopal Church of the Mediator, The Reverend Morris K. Thompson, III officiating and Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will be in the church courtyard columbarium immediately following the services.

Mr. Shirley, 76, of Meridian, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Monday, September 9, 2019.

Harvey was born and raised in Quitman, MS, and graduated from Quitman High School. He was a multi-sport athlete, and accepted a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Mississippi. Harvey married Marcia Jan Kimbrell from Meridian while at Ole Miss, and they started their family while living in student housing. Upon graduating with an accounting degree, Harvey moved his young family to Houston, TX. After a few years - and another baby - the lure of home was strong and they settled in Meridian, where a third child completed the Shirley household. Harvey was a well-respected businessman in the community, managing Cloverleaf Shopping Center and the proprietor of Cloverleaf Package Store for over forty years. He was a member of the Optimist Club and was involved as a coach in youth baseball for many years.

The Shirley’s have been faithful members of The Church of the Mediator since 1971, and Harvey was a member of the choir for decades. Harvey was an avid Ole Miss fan, and loved attending baseball and football games on campus. He was a genuinely friendly and gentle man, and leaves behind many close, life-long friends, and countless others he knew through business, church, and life in the community.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marcia K. Shirley, children, Cindy McGinnis (Jim), Kimberly Bolin (Printz), and Miles Shirley, Jr. (Hayley); grandchildren, Menton Deweese (Matthew), Davis McGinnis (Karli), Caroline McGinnis, Tripp Bolin, Miles Bolin, Sarah Paige Shirley, and Conner Shirley;and great granddaughter, Ella Gray Deweese; and sister, Ruby S. Graham.

Mr. Shirley was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Shirley, brothers, Jimmy Shirley and Johnny Shirley, and sister, Sarah S. Long.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. George Arrington, Gerald Mitchell, Wink Glover, Marty Davidson, Brock Shirley, David Shirley, Will Uithoven, Jay Ziller and Charles Ray.

Memorials may be made to The Church of the Mediator youth pilgrimage or to The Harvey M. and Marcia K. Shirley Scholarship Fund at the University of Mississippi.
