Hazel Covington Chaney A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in Meridian, Mississippi on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Drew Dabbs officiating. Burial will be Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Hazel Covington Chaney, 93, a Northland resident of Kansas City, Missouri (formerly of Meridian, Mississippi) passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2015. Hazel was born September 19, 1921 to Thomas L. and Ruby Mae (Gibson) Covington. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Leland Chaney, her parents, brothers; Orville Covington, Willard Covington, sisters, Arneta Covington, Almeta Snowden, Bernice Walker, Claire Stephens and Dorothy Covington. Survivors include her daughter, June Mitchell (Samuel) of Kansas City, MO; Grandchildren: Samuel P. Mitchell, III (Tonya); and Leland Scott Mitchell (Michelle); three great-grandchildren: Samuel P. Mitchell, IV; Tessa Mitchell and Gabriel Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters: Mary Chaney of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; Clydine White of Monroe, Louisiana; Patsy Flowers of Philadelphia, Mississippi; brother, Tommy Covington of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Hazel was a true Southern lady. Whether she was assisting Leland, the proprietor of a very popular sandwich shop in Meridian, Mississippi, or working as an Administrative Assistant at Northwest Junior High School, she approached each opportunity with her unlimited energy: exuding joy and blessings. She left her family and friends with a legacy of unconditional love, strong faith, and a passionate desire of service to others. Her life verse serves to challenge and inspire us. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Our family thanks all who lovingly cared for Hazel during her illness. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Gashland Baptist Church Lottie Moon Christmas offering or the charity of your choice.
