Funeral service for Hazel R. Moore will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, 2:00 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Pastor James Clark officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Collinsville. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Ms. Hazel R. Moore, age 81, of Collinsville passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at her home in Collinsville.

Hazel Moore completed early education from LeBanon School in Collinsville, after which she went on to attend Meridian Junior College and was one of the first of seven African American students to attend MJC and was known as “THE INSPIRED SEVEN”. Hazel received an Associates of Arts (AA) in Elementary Education; she attended University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and received her Bachelors of Science Education. Attended Mississippi State in Starksville MS, to receive her Masters of Education; and lastly, achieving a Specialist Degree in Education From (MSU).

Hazel was an active member of The R.B. Matthews Temple NO.739 (AKA ELKS LODGE) where she held various officer positions. Hazel was an educator for the Lauderdale County school district for 30 years. Hazel lastly, and more importantly had a love for Our Lord and Savior and her church family and community. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age in life and served in many capacities in her home church of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Upon her last hours amongst us she professed her love of the lord and knew she was saved and wanted her family to be saved as well, encouraging everyone to keep their hands in the Lord’s hand, love each other as Christ loved us and to read his holy word daily.

Our “Mama Hazel” as we knew her, loved her family enjoyed spending time with everyone and made everybody she encountered feel welcome, she had a true humble heart that shined with her every smile.

Survivors include: Margaret Donice Brown-Gaines (Will), Vicky Trussell Harris (Curtis) and Cleveland Cheyenne Trussell (Bobby) Rick Moore Jr (Trina), Close Friend Rick Moore SR, Bonus son-Wendell Trussell.

12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 10great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Thereatha Lewis Hunt; Sister Dorothy Lee Miles; Aunt Fredna G Lewis, and Grandfather Robert Lewis Sr “PaPa” and numerous uncles and aunts and cousins.

Pallbearers will be: Rick Moore JR, Erik Gordon, Jaquaris Clayton, Jeffrey Harris, Eddie Welch, Kenzales Avery.

Flower Girls: Latoya Harris Bennet, Candace Pringle Welch, Nacara Grayson-Scott, TyShaela Clayton, Takymmea Clayton, Ashley Trussell-Croom, Kendashia Avery.
