Graveside services for Mrs. Helen Gough will begin Saturday August 31, 2019 at 10:30 am at Magnolia Cemetery with Bro. Mike Vick officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Gough, 92, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Gough was a native of Meridian and was a graduate of Meridian High School and Bowling Green College. She was a member of both the Forget-Me-Not and Suburban Garden Clubs as well as the Meridian Council of Garden Clubs, Inc. where she served as President of each organization. She served on the Meridian Tree and Keep Mississippi Beautiful boards, and served on the Board of Directors of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi (GCM) for over 50 years serving as a District Director twice. During those years she received awards including the Presidents’ Silver Award for her contributions to the field of Garden Club work, the Mississippi Urban Forest Council award for her work in planting trees, the MDOT Commissioner’s award for Roadside Beautification projects at the Lauderdale County Welcome Center. Mrs. Gough was a National Accredited Master Flower Show Judge and member of the Mississippi Flower Show Judges Council, serving as President from 1991 until 1993. The “Helen G. Gough Table Artistry Award,” is a GCM Flower Award named in her honor for table artistry. Mrs. Gough was also an Emeritus member of the Mississippi Tri Consultants’ Council as a National Garden Clubs Landscape Design Consultant. She was an active long-time member of the Silver Cross Circle; she was also a life-long member of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives: Edward C., Jr. and Karen Hill Gough of Lauderdale, MS, and Jefferson L. and Elizabeth Hansen Gough of Bellevue, Washington; also two grandsons, Edward M. Gough of Lauderdale, MS, and John H. Gough and his wife Ceri of Gilbert, AZ, Hilary Hanselman, Kurt Hanselman, Hope and Cam Sisk; her greatgrandchildren, Monson, Finn, Nixon, Indie Mae, and Leo of Gilbert, AZ, and Lucy Sisk of Mandan, ND.
Mrs. Gough is preceded in death by her husband, E.C. Gough, Sr. and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Gartman of Meridian.
