Helen Griffin Smith

July 11, 1925 — December 12, 2024

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Griffin Smith will begin at 2:30 PM Monday, December 16, 2024, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Reverends Dr. Corey Fontan and Caleb Hughes officiating. Service music will be provided by Mr. Kevin Thompson and Mr. Jimmy Harper. Interment will follow graveside rites in the church cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Our Nan was 99 ½ years old.  She loved her Lord, her family, her friends, her church family, and her companion “Bella”, her dog. She was the oldest member of Fellowship Baptist Church and served as long as her health permitted. She had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She liked to pick at people and joke with them. She had a sharp mind but had lost most of her sight, hearing, and ability to walk. She would often say, “Lord when are you going to take me?” She said, “He would say not today, Helen.”  He answered her prayer on Thursday, December 12 when God took her home with Him.

She is survived by her children, Donna Hawkins, Nita Thompson (Kevin), and Trisha Harper (Jimmy). Her grandchildren, Steve Harris, Sean Harris, Micah McKee, Jennifer Craft (Rick), Sha Harper, and Jim Harper (Jill); her great-grandchildren, Kim Jordan, Matt Harris, Chris Harris (Kenzie), Emily Craft, Lauren Craft, Eden Harper, and Asher Harper; great-great-grandchildren, Brayden, Lexi, Trevor, Cam, and Case. She is survived by her sister, Faye Bruner, as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

Mrs. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James Smith; her parents, Maudie and Clayborne Griffin; Seven Siblings, her niece, Lynn Combest; and her son-in-law, Don Hawkins.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Micah McKee, Sean Harris, Steve Harris, Jim Harper, Matt Harris, and Chris Harris.

The Smith Family requests memorial donations be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
