James C. "Shorty" Allen, Sr. Services for James C. "Shorty" Allen, Sr. will be held Friday, July 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Talley officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Church of God Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Allen, 92, of Meridian died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Aldersgate Retirement Home. He was a retired carman and worked with M & B Railroad. Mr. Allen was a member of Jones Chapel Church of God. He loved fishing and playing dominos and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his two daughters Sandra Hodgins and her husband Gary of Meridian, Tawanna Wright and her husband John of Meridian; one son James C. "Cowboy" Allen, Jr. of Tupelo; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Gaynell Allen Barber; second wife Hazel Bernice Allen; a brother William Earl Allen; a sister Hazel Kelley; a great-grandson Drake Hodgins; and parents William H. and Liddie Allen. The family request memorials be made to Jones Chapel Church of God Building Fund. Pallbearers will be Greg Chatham, Tommy Galyean, Jason Hodgins, Tony Creel, Charles Compton and Ray Martin.
