James Barnwell Anderson, Sr. Services for James Barnwell "Daddy Jim" Anderson, Sr. will be Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rhett G. Payne, III officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Anderson, 85, of Meridian died Friday, October 26, 2012, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. Mr. Anderson was born on August 29, 1927. He attended the University of Alabama on three athletic scholarships. He played football, basketball and ran track and was a member of the 1946 Rose Bowl Team. He was a Sigma Chi at the University of Alabama. Mr. Anderson was President of Anderson Homes Company in Meridian, Mississippi, which he founded in 1953. He was past Chairman of the Meridian Housing Authority, member and Chairman of the Meridian Planning Commission Board, former Chairman of the Board of Directors at Great Southern National Bank, he served on the board from 1976 to 2012. He was Scout Master of Troop One from 1958 until 1974. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award with the Boy Scouts of America in 1964, he was inducted into the Order of Arrow with the Boy Scouts in 1962, Scout Century Member in 1984, named King of Mardi Gras of the Meridian Junior Auxiliary in 1964, member of the Meridian Contractors Association and was president in 1963, member and former Deacon of First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Northwood Country Club and was past president in 1963, he was a member of the Rotary Board of Directors. He was a veteran of the United States Army. His avocations included hunting, boating, electric trains and stamp collecting. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years Joann Bailey Anderson of Meridian; daughter Janet Anderson Price and husband Alan of Toomsuba,; son James Barnwell Anderson, Jr. and wife Gail of Brandon and daughter Kathleen Anderson O'Brien and husband Tom of Walnut Creek, California; grandchildren Jeremy Martin Sullivan and wife Shantell, Amy House and husband Jason, Alyson Kate Price, Megan Anderson Garvey and husband Sean, Lindsey Anderson Triplett and husband Ray, Joel Rhett Anderson, Devin Anderson O'Brien and wife Emily, Kelsey Kathleen O'Brien and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson James Christopher Sullivan and parents Samuel Venable and Elizabeth McCarty Anderson. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund. Pallbearers will be Joel Anderson, Tom O'Brien, Alan Price, Ray Triplett, Jeremy Sullivan and Devin O'Brien. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of First Presbyterian and former employees of Anderson Homes Company. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at robertbarhamffh.com.
