James Helmut Grunwald

February 26, 1965 — December 14, 2022

James Helmut Grunwald entered this world on February 26, 1965 in Stillwater, MN. From an early age he embraced life with curiosity, energy and an adventurous spirit. From early childhood Jim had a fascination with aviation which led him to pursue an education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he graduated at the top of his class with a Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering and an MBA. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy where he fulfilled his dream of serving his country and becoming a pilot. Jim achieved the goal of becoming a flight test engineer for the F18 and F20 fighter jets.  Jim always offered excellence in everything he did and after his time in the Navy he continued to serve his country for 21 years as a distinguished Special Agent for the FBI until he retired in December of 2021.

Jim Grunwald was a man of honor and integrity, and these traits awarded him many honors and accolades through his life but he was better known for his humility and desire to be part of a team where everyone was encouraged and celebrated equally. Jim was known for his kindness, determination, generosity and honesty. His quick wit and sense of humor were personality traits that made him unique.

Jim’s greatest achievement was his love for his family. Jim adored his wife Stacey and together they lived a wonderful life for over 34 years. They raised Samantha together and she was their delight and blessing. Jim shared his love of adventure with Samme in so many ways, like racing motocross, water activities, planning adventures and setting goals for a beautiful life. Jim was always Samme’s biggest fan and admirer. Jim lived life to the fullest until the very end, cycling, fishing, kayaking, cooking, brewing his own beer, and being out in nature. He never stopped learning and researching and could be found many nights on the couch, surfing the web for the most up to date information on a variety of topics. Jim was a man deeply devoted to his wife, his family, his work, and his code of ethics. Jim left this world on December 14, 2022 to soar in the next life. He did not leave before he made his mark on the lives of all who knew him and for that we are grateful.

James Helmut Grunwald is preceded in death by his loving mother, Nancy Grunwald. He is survived by his wife, Stacey Grunwald, his daughter, Samantha Grunwald, his father Helmut Grunwald, his sister Eileen Comeratio, his mother and father in law, Pat and Lamar Mclelland, and several  nieces and nephews.
