Graveside services for Mr. James "Mertie" Hendrix will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Hendrix Hill Cemetery with Bro. Frank Gibson and Bro. Dwight Manning officiating. Interment will follow graveside services.

James Hendrix, age 80, of De Kalb, MS, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.

He is survived by his children, Cindy Bobo, Glennda Aust, Mark Hendrix (Kathy), Chuck Millsaps, Tanya Hendrix, and Mandy Gay (Russ); grandchildren, Brandi Lumpkins (Jeremy), Megan Skaggs (Tommy), Dakota Aust, Dylan Bobo (Olivia), Leah Robinson (Connor), Jena Mason (Jackson), Duane Hendrix (Allison), Bryce Hendrix (Gabby), Dakota Gay and Ethan Gay; 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Charlotte Gibson (Frank) and Wayne Hendrix (Cathy), and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Jo Hendrix, his son, Mike Hendrix, his daughter-in-law, Linda Millsaps, his son-in-law, Jack Bobo, his sisters, Bessie Manning and Gracie Mozingo and his parents, Guy and Vernie Hendrix.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Lee White and Russell Gay.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
