Graveside services for Mr. James "Jim" Hollis Sr. will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Oddfellows Cemetery in Aberdeen, MS, with Rev. David Meadows Officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
James "Jim" Berry Hollis Sr., age 83, of Meridian, MS, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at Brookdale Meridian.
Jim graduated from Derma High School and then went on to attend Mississippi State University graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor's Degree in agriculture with a minor in animal science. While at Mississippi State, Jim was introduced to Ms. Linda Earnest, at a MSU Basketball Game. After graduation Jim and Linda married in 1965 and made their home in Meridian, MS. Jim went to work for the Extension Service of Mississippi State University. He was a 4H youth agent, and then later became the Lauderdale County Extension Agent. In the midst of his career, he earned a Master's Degree from Mississippi State University. After a 28-year career Jim retired as the County Agent for Mississippi State University Extension - Lauderdale County.
Jim was a dedicated fan of all Mississippi State University sports. He enjoyed woodworking and was a Licensed Hamm radio operator (KA5DOQ). Jim and Linda were active members of Druid Hills United Methodist Church.
After the tragic loss of their daughter Sarah, Jim and Linda joined with other grieving parents to co-found a chapter of Compassionate Friends here in Meridian, MS for bereaved parents.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda E. Hollis, son, James "Jay" Hollis Jr. (Cecilia), grandchildren; James "Trey" Hollis III (Whitney) and Carmen Hollis (Mark Cherry), great-grandchildren; Ledger "L.J.", Gwen, and Ayla, siblings; Jane Landreth (Denny) and Joe Hollis (Joanne) and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Hollis, parents, Franklin Graham Hollis Sr., and Maggie Spraberry Hollis, brother; Franklin "Frank" Graham Hollis Jr.
Pallbearers will be, James “Trey” Hollis, Mart Murphree, Franklin Hollis, Graham Murphree, Matthew Walker, and Austin Walker.
