James Ronald "Ron" Smith

James Ronald "Ron" Smith, 79, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and the memories of those who knew him best. He was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on March 24, 1947, and went home on July 20th 2026.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Harold Smith; his mother, Mary Lucille Benson; and his beloved wife, Ann Smith.

He is survived by his son, Jeremy Smith and his wife, Anna; his daughter, Leah McMahan and her husband, Lance; his grandchildren, Austin Smith, Brooklyn Johnson, Lake Roberts, Landon Patano, and Anniston Patano; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

Ron spent much of his youth in California, where he graduated from Santa Ana High School before earning his certification from Santa Ana Beauty and Barber College. He later returned to the Meridian area, where he worked for Peavey Electronics, Arco Aluminum, and Service Merchandise throughout his career.

An avid outdoorsman, Ron found peace in God's creation. Whether hunting in the woods or casting a line into the water, he was happiest outdoors. He had a special love for wildlife and an extraordinary compassion for animals, especially dogs. Countless people knew him as the man who quietly traveled the back roads of Lauderdale County, making sure homeless and abandoned animals had food and fresh water. His kindness expected nothing in return and reflected a heart that cared deeply for God's creatures.

Above all, Ron loved his family. He treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, and the lessons he taught through quiet strength, perseverance, and compassion will continue to live on through them.

Ron will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love of the outdoors, his servant's heart, and the countless acts of kindness he extended to both people and animals. Though he will be deeply missed, those who loved him find comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, generosity, and faith will continue through the lives he touched.

A graveside service celebrating Ron's life will be officiated by his son, Brother Jeremy Smith. It will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Austin Smith, Lance McMahan, Landon Patano, Stan Peterson, Robbie McClure, and Jeff Lee.
