James Durham Stone
Mr. James D. “Sonny” Stone, age 78, of Meridian, Mississippi passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. Private services were held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Brother Jamie Lamoreaux officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
He was born on July 27, 1937 to Otha and Annie B. Stone near Moundville, Alabama. After retiring from the U.S. Navy at U.S. Naval Air Station, Meridian, Mississippi, he worked as an insurance representative for Jefferson Standard and Geico for many years. He loved his family and the outdoors and spent many hours and days working on his property in Alabama. One of his favorite things was the time spent with members of the Buck Busters Hunting Club who hunted and fished his land. He loved people and was a great story teller. His death leaves a huge void in the lives of many people which will never be filled.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bettie W. Stone; daughters, Paula S. Stone and her husband, William “Bill” Johnson of St. Charles, Missouri, Ramona Stone Jackson and her husband, William E. Jackson Jr. of Meridian, Mississippi, and Jamelle Stone Seabury of Bessemer, Alabama; grandchildren, James Brady “Brad” Dearman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, William E. Jackson III and Christian Stone Jackson both of Meridian, Mississippi, and Rebecca Stone Johnson of St. Charles, Missouri; sisters, Peggy Sexton and Doris Tidmore both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Annie B. Stone; brother, Ray Stone; sister, Annie Ruth Lawless; and son-in-law, Robert Thomas Seabury.
Pallbearers were William “Bill” Johnson, William E. Jackson Jr., James Brady “Brad” Dearman, William E. Jackson III, Rebecca Stone Johnson, and Christian Stone Jackson.
