Funeral services for Mr. James William “Billy” Bounds, Sr. will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Liberty Baptist Church in DeKalb, with the Reverends Dr. Malcolm Lewis, Dr. Albert “Hack” McMullan and Bro. Joshua Drury officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Billy, 88, of DeKalb, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 15, 2019.
Billy was born August 11, 1930 in Meridian, MS to J.C. and Lora Bounds. He graduated from Martin High School and then attended East Mississippi Junior College in 1950 where he played basketball. He was inducted into the East Mississippi Community College Hall of Fame In 2016. On September 7, 1950 he married the former Charlotte Virginia Darnell. He was the Manager of Commercial Credit, Inc. Billy was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon of over 40 years. He realized his lifelong dream when he retired to his farm in Kemper County. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessings of the times we spent with him. “Dad, you have given so much and asked for so little in return. Thank you for always being there for us, for teaching us, listening to us, helping and forgiving us, loving us, and always, always paving the ways for us. We will work hard to reach the standards you set. Farewell sweet Daddy, You were simply magnificent.”
Billy is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Virginia; his children, Brenda, and James (Kathy). Six grandchildren, Brock, Jas, Mitzi, Brandi, Ryan and Brook; great-grandchildren, Cade, McKenna, Katherine, Grant, Emma, Ashlyn, Rylan, Case, Cooper, Sadie, Loren Grace, and Madi Ryan. Sister-in-law, Lorraine, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Mr. Bounds is preceded in death by his sister, Janene; parents, J.C. and Lora Bounds-White.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Stay Home Hospice Association. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last 18 months was a heartwarming blessing to the entire family.
Pallbearers will be Brock Clay, Jas Bounds, Ryan Clay, Grant Schaefer, Ryan Kennedy, and Camp Keith.
The family would suggest that memorials be made to The Gideons International in addition to floral offerings.
