Graveside services for Jane D. Hurst PhD will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Dr. Jerry Roberson officiating. Interment will follow graveside services. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Jane D. Hurst PhD, age 83, of Meridian, MS, passed away Sunday, February 22nd, at her home.

Jane was born on February 18th, 1943, to Robert and Inez Dobbins in Pennsylvania. She obtained her RN in Pensacola, FL, where she met her husband, M. Fieldon Hurst, MD. They settled in Meridian, MS. She obtained her BSN, MSN, and PhD at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She taught nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi and East Central Community College. Jane retired and invested her time in her church home, Poplar Springs Dr. Baptist Church, family, tending to her garden, playing Bridge and her favorite thing to do, which was spending time with her granddaughter, Annabelle. Jane will be remembered for being the gracious, generous, sweet and loving person she was.

She is survived by her daughters, Dana Hurst Simmons (Stacy) and Jackie Hurst Newell (Lyle) and granddaughter, Annabelle Hurst Simmons, nephew, Johnny Abbott and niece, Diane Sangster.

She was preceded in death by her husband M. Fieldon Hurst, M.D., her mother Inez Dobbins, her father, Robet Dobbins, sisters, Sandra Dobbins and Dot Abbott, nieces, Arlene Dobbins and Lisa Mott.

The family request memorials be made to Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.
