On a Beautiful Sunday morning, June 27, 2021, there was a glorious Home Going. This earthly world lost a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. But, as a Child of God, Heaven gained a beautiful soul.
Jean departed this earthly life at her home surrounded by her family after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Her family will dearly miss her but rejoice today knowing she won the race and is Celebrating in Heaven.
She would want us to be reminded that she was born on Sunday, May 04, 1941, in Norwood, La. To her parents, Ralph Prestridge and Doris Case. She lived and worked in Centerville, MS where she met the Love of her Life, Paul Chappell of Wisner, La. They began their life together living near family she dearly loved in Louisiana. In the fall of 1972, they made the bold move to Mississippi. No matter where she lived her number one goal was finding a church to attend. The first and most important thing to her was raising her children in church and knowing their Salvation was secure. With the move to Mississippi came a very important time in her life where she worked for Herschede Hall Clock Company. She made lifelong friends there who to this day remain faithful friends. Most importantly she loved being a mother. Her whole goal in life was to see her children love God just as she did. Her favorite role in life was being Granny to her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Gardening was always a big part of her life. It was like she was in competition with the previous year to fill the freezer more. Or perhaps add more freezers. If it needed to be shelled, she shelled it. If it required being canned, she canned it. She canned vegetables No one in her house liked just to give away to others. Of course, her Grandchildren knew the way to her freezer because they were known to bring a cooler when they visited. She was fulfilled by sharing whatever she had. She gave her children many gifts and talents as she was a seamstress, a great cook, and a Woman of God.
She leaves a legacy to the love of her life for 59 years 10 months and 22 days her best friend, Paul Chappell. Her Children, Tammy (Andy) Kite of Vancleave, MS, Liddie (Sam) Anderson of Columbus, MS, Paula (Roger) Pate of Collinsville, Billy Chappell of Collinsville, and Christy (Charles) Anderson of Collinsville. Her siblings Charles (Gwen) Prestridge of Liberty, MS, Anne Derbes of Oscar, La, and Kit Prestridge of Ridgeland, MS. Grandchildren, Brad (Leah) Mitchell of Saltillo, MS, Drew (Beverly) Kite of Vancleave, MS, Will (Laura) Mitchell of Ackerman, MS, Ryan (Shannon) Kite of Vancleave, MS, Alex (Audrey) Chappell of Louisville, MS, Michael, Lauren, and Gabriel Anderson of Collinsville. And her Great Grands, Bryce, Allie, Jak, Philip, Hamp, Luke, Taylor, Brenna, Blayne, Charlee, and Colbie.
Pallbearers will be her son, Billy Chappell joined by her Grandsons, Brad, Drew, Will, Ryan, Alex, and Michael.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Our wonderful Stay-Home Hospice Team.
