Jean Wittenberg Ellis Graveside services for Jean Wittenberg Ellis will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Dr. Larry Hilliard officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Ellis passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012, at the Zero House personal care home. She was born November 24, 1928, in Memphis, Tennessee to Carrie Bell and Louis Edward Wittenberg. Jean was raised in Memphis, Tennessee where she graduated from Central High School and then attended the University of Arkansas. She was a flight attendant for Chicago and Southern Airlines before marrying Gordon Ellis. They moved to Wayne, Illinois where they lived for several years before moving back to Memphis. Jean was a member of Les Passess, a volunteer women's organization in Memphis and did volunteer work at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. The Ellis' moved to Meridian in 1968. She worked for many years and retired from People's Bank. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Jean had a love for dogs, especially standard poodles and she enjoyed cooking, entertaining and watching college football. Special thanks go to all of her caregivers over the past several years at Fisher Care, Bedford Care Center and Gentiva Home Health Care as well as her physicians. Survivors include her children Cindy Lang and her husband Irby, Charlie Ellis, Nancy McElroy and Deborah Haggard and her husband David; grandchildren Melissa Brown and her husband Jamie, Laura Lang, Anna Kathryn Ellis, Carrie McElroy Page and her husband Travis, Jamie McElroy, David Haggard, Jr., Daniel Wittenberg (Witt) Haggard; great-grandchildren Dylan Brown, Ridge Brown and Hayden Haggard; sister Mary Lou Adams and brother Jimmy Wittenberg and his wife Betty, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Ellis and parents Carrie Bell and Louis Edward Wittenberg. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Poplar Spring Drive United Methodist Church, First Christian Church or a favorite charity. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
