Funeral services for Jean W. Johnson will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Brother Carl White officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, 89, passed away August 20, 2016, at Bedford Care Center of Marion.
A lifelong resident of Meridian, Jean graduated from Meridian High School and Draughons Business College. She married James. B. “Dugan” Johnson and they raised four daughters. As her girls grew up, she was very active in the PTA. Jean served on the Meridian Council of Garden Clubs and enjoyed playing bridge. Beyond her family, her greatest devotion was to Highland Baptist Church, where she served as the Sunday school secretary, helped to develop the Kindergarten program and was Coordinator of both the Money Counting Committee and the Structural Assembly of the annual HBC Singing Christmas Tree. She also worked as a bookkeeper in several local businesses. After retirement as Office Manager of their family business, Service Supply, Inc., Jean and Dugan enjoyed camping with the Mockingbird Chapter of the Good Sam Travel Club.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Rosanne Davis and husband, Ed, of Shoreline, Washington, Janine Davis and husband, Robert, of Conroe, Texas, Dee Espey and husband, Deaun, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Becky Newell of Meridian; six grandchildren, Jean Rodriguez and husband, John, of Winters, California, James Davis and wife, Taylor, of Carrolton, Georgia, Sarah Paul and husband, Ryan, of Montgomery, Texas, Will Grace of Pensacola, Florida, Casey Newell of Meridian, Brooks Newell of Dothan, Alabama; six great-grandchildren, Anne and Katie Rodriguez, Helmi and Modi Davis, Cason and Claire Paul. She’s also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Dugan, and parents, Bill and Rose Wilmurth.
