Funeral services for Jennings Bryan Barnett will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Owen and Rev. David McCubbin officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Carthage, Mississippi with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jennings Bryan Barnett, know to family and friends as “J.B.”, age 93, of Meridian, Mississippi passed away September 6, 2018 at Aldersgate Senior Living surrounded by his family.
Mr. Barnett was born in Lena, Mississippi on August 25, 1925. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received an honorable discharge before graduating from The University of Mississippi. J.B. briefly owned a drug store in Carthage, MS before spending many years and retiring as an Executive Sales Representative with Merck. J.B. was a long time, faithful deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Meridian. He passionately enjoyed the fellowship and ministry of the church softball, basketball and volleyball teams where he coached for many years; he enjoyed playing volleyball into his 80’s. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels with his wife and enjoyed sharing the spoils of competitive gardening. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Barnett is survived by wife of 66 years, Eugenia Barnett; his sons, Johnny Barnett (Christy), Sidney Barnett ( Louann ), and James Barnett (Pam); his grandchildren, Taylor Davis (James), Rachel Walley (Alan), Michael Johnston (Margaret), Hailey Johnston (fiancé Beau), and Allie Barnett; his great-grandchildren, Modi , Elijah, Rush, and Maguire. He is also survived by three nieces and three nephews.
Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his parents, Gursel and Ruth Barnett and his sisters, Mabel Ruth Johnson and Dorothy Mae Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Hank Johnson, Gus Gary, Rusty Roberts, Chad Johnson, Michael Johnston, and James Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be shared with Meals on Wheels.

Visitation will be Monday, September 10, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
