Services for Jennings Wyatt Burrage will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Chris Vowell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Burrage, 95, of Meridian died peacefully in his sleep May 19th, at his home at the Brookdale Retirement Community. He was born on January 17, 1923, in Noxapater, Mississippi, to William Irvin and Lucia Price Burrage.
Mr. Burrage was a veteran of World War II in the Army Air Corp. until May, 1945. He was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite, Shriner in the Hamasa Marching Patrol Unit in Meridian, and retired from the Meridian Post Office after 36 years.
Mr. Burrage is survived by his children, Judi Shirley (Barry) of Columbia, South Carolina, Thomas R. Burrage of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Amy Warren (Paul) of Madison, Mississippi; grandchildren, Scott Simmons, Darren Simmons, Sara Burrage Lance (Tyler), Matthew Warren and Zachary Warren; great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace Lance; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special first cousin, Doris Price French, 96, who resides at Brookdale. He was able to spend the last year and a half living down the hall from her and sharing daily meals and activities.
Mr. Burrage is predeceased by the love of his life for 67 years, Millie Young Burrage. He is also predeceased by eleven siblings, Lavelle Burrage, Eva Rae Weir, Taft Burrage, Hoyle Hanna, Connor Hanna, Mary Alice Henry, Eva Dean Daws, Tom Edd Burrage, William Leo Burrage, Leila Iris Massey, and Thaddeus Franklin Burrage.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the CCU nurses at Anderson Hospital for their special care. Also for the wonderful friendships made and care of the residents and employees of Brookdale; Kindred Home Health; Kare-In-Home; and Compassus Hospice, all of Meridian. Also a special heartfelt thanks to his Nieces, Wanda McBrayer and Brenda Vowell for their love and compassion and visits with our Dad.
Memorials may be made to Mississippi Combine Healing Room charity of Philadelphia, MS or the Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
