Memorial services for Jere Park Pope, Sr. will be held Friday, December 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Reverend Mark Flynn officiating, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be a later date in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Tennessee. Mr. Pope, 79, of Collinsville, Mississippi died November 29, 2011, at Anderson Regional Medical Center surrounded by his wife and three sons. He was born November 16, 1932, to the late F.F. and Lucille Pope of Lexington, Tennessee. Mr. Pope was a 1954 graduate of Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, Tennessee and attended Vanderbilt University. Mr. Pope received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Belmont University in Nashville and went on to receive his Masters Degree in Financial Management from George Washington University in Washington, DC. In 1956, upon notification of the draft, he joined the U.S. Navy and graduated from OCS as a Commissioned Naval Officer in the Supply Corp. He attained the rank of Commander during his twenty five years in the Navy and served aboard the USS Pickaway and USS MacDonough. Other duty stations include Lemoore, California; Controller at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Meridian, Mississippi; U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island where he retired in 1981. After retiring from the Navy he worked as an administrator in several law offices in New Orleans, Louisiana and later moved back to Meridian where he worked for First United Bank and Trustmark Bank. Mr. Pope was an Elder and member of Trinity Presbyterian Church (USA) . He loved hunting, fishing and playing country music. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer and race motorcycles. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Ms. Peggy Reed and her staff. Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Dorothy Wright Pope; three sons, Jere Park Pope, Jr. and his wife Diane of Smyrna, Tennessee, James Michael Pope and his wife Karen of Meridian, Mississippi and John Leonard Pope and his wife Liz of Collinsville, Mississippi; five grandchildren Matthew Finley Pope and Anna Frances Pope of Smyrna, Tennessee; Ashlyn Ann, Abbie Elizabeth and Addisyn Elaine Pope of Collinsville, Mississippi; Phillip M.Thrash of Meridian, Mississippi and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents F.F. and Lucille Pope and his sister Carolyn P. Cummins.
