Jerrel D. Davis Services for Jerrel Dwain Davis will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Rev. John R. Koch and Rev Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Davis, age 81, of Meridian, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. Jerrel was born on November 12, 1932 in Pulaski, Mississippi to the late Ethel Mirabeau Davis and Lecie Dyess Davis. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Lions Club. Jerrel was a Baptist deacon for over 55 years and an avid bird hunter. He was a successful Christian businessman, owning Jerrel Davis Buick for more than 30 years. Jerrel was a former president of the Mississippi Automobile Dealers Association. Though he lived in Meridian the last 48 years, he was proud to have been born in Pulaski ,MS, and to be from Scott County. He was an ardent lifelong supporter of The Ole Miss Rebels and considered himself to be a "walk on alumnus". Pop loved the Lord, his wife, his family and Ole Miss. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Norma Burnside Davis, and his children, Debra Davis (David) Compton, Lou Ellen Davis (Glen) Glafenhein, of Knoxville, TN, Kay Davis (John) Koch of Memphis, TN, A. Dwain (Mary) Davis, and J. Douglas (Melanie) Davis . His grandchildren, D. Matthew (Emily) Compton of Baltimore MD, Shearer Elizabeth Compton (Brett) Holloway of Memphis, TN, John Joseph(Janae) Koch of Chevy Chase, MD, Anna Kathryn Koch of Williamsburg, VA, Aaron G. (Elaine) Glafenhein of Port Orange, FL, Wil Davis J (Devon) Glafenhein of Knoxville, TN, John M. Glafenhein of Knoxville, TN, Hallie G. Davis, Brooke E. Davis, Christopher David Glafenhein of Knoxville, TN, Katie E. Davis, Caroline K. Glafenhein of Knoxville, TN, Emily L. Davis, Kayla M. Davis, and Daniel V. Davis. His great- grand children, Shearer Margot Holloway, Maddie Clarke Holloway, David Prentiss Compton, and Charis Michele Glafenhein. His brothers, Edwin M. Davis of Pelahatchie, MS, Paul S. (Beverly) Davis, and his sister in law, Wilma Davis of Branch, MS. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eldon N. Davis. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1318 15th Avenue, Meridian, MS 39301. The pallbearers will be his grandsons.
