Funeral services for Mr. Jerrell Polk will begin at 11:30 AM, Thursday, May 29, 2025, at First Christian Church of Meridian with the Reverends Dr. Mark Benson and Dr. Tom Sikes officiating. Service music will be provided by Mr. David Benson. Interment will follow graveside rites at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Collinsville. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Polk, 92, of Meridian, died Friday, May 23, at his home following a brief illness.
After High school, Jerrell joined the United States Air Force and became an Air Traffic Controller until 1984. He loved all things concerning aviation from an early age. His first assignment was in Gage, Oklahoma, where he met his wife, Mary, and they were married in 1957. Following their marriage, they were stationed in Waco, Texas before moving to Meridian, Mississippi in 1964. Olin went on to complete his career with the FAA at Naval Air Station Meridian in 1984. He joined First Christian Church in 1965 where he and his family were involved in all aspects of church life. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed bird hunting in his early years; he especially loved deer hunting and fishing at any opportunity he could. He was also a woodworker as one of his many hobbies, building two homes, as well as many pieces of furniture. He also enjoyed his daily phone calls from his close friend, David Stehle.
Mr. Jerrell is survived by his children, Dale Polk (Robin), Anita Thebo (Raymond), and Barbara Grubb (Robert); grandchildren, Jessie Lattimore, Rebekah Thebo, Kaitlin Ruthstrom (J.R.), Savannah Ryan (Ash), and Ashton Woodall (Kade); great-grandchildren, Dillon Wright (Alivia), Lane Lattimore, Jetsyn Lattimore, and Beau Ryan; great-great-grandchildren, Ledger Wright and Haven Wright; his brother, Don Polk (Mary); his sister-in-law, Betsy Polk; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mr. Polk is preceded in death by his wife of over 61 years, Mary Polk; his parents, Olin and Ruth Berry Polk; his brother, Larry Polk; and his sister, JoAnn Polk Bell.
The Polk Family suggests memorials be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or to First Christian Church Meridian, in lieu of flowers.
