Mr. Burt, 57, of Lauderdale, died Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Jerry worked as a mechanic at Northwood Country Club in Meridian where he was employed over 5 years; he also worked at Briarwood Country Club. Jerry worked for over 15 years in the oilfield, both in the US and overseas, where he worked as a motorman, where no job was too big or tough for him to handle. He was hardworking and determined, there was nothing he couldn’t accomplish, once he made up his mind. Jerry was a servant of his fellow man and served as a Deputy Sheriff in Lauderdale County many years. He was a loving papaw, a title which he favored the most. He had a wit about him that would always make others smile or crack a smile. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, especially with his family and grandkids. He was an animal lover and he specifically loved dogs, especially his companions, Macy, Piper, and his grand dog, Tippee.
Jerry is survived by his wife of over 37 years, Cindy Burt; children, Heather Lewis (Skyler), Corey Burt, and Brooke Collins (Boston); grandchildren, Layton Lewis, Owen Lewis, Paisley Smyth, and Jozlynn Burt; his parents, Joe and Ann Burt; his brother, Joey Burt; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father and mother in-law, George and Velma May; his brother-in-law, Steve May; and his daughter-in-law, Brittney Burt.
Mr. Burt’s Family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to the Physicians, Nurses, Respiratory Therapist, and Staff, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center for their exceptional love and care during his medical treatment. Special thanks to Mike and Ann Marie Munn, and BMG for their ministry and support.
The Burt Family suggests memorials be made as donations to Prospect Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
