Jerry David Nance

Jerry David Nance, affectionately known to his family as “Pop Pop,” passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, at the age of 58. He fought a brave battle against an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma for nine months, never giving up hope.

Born on October 23, 1967, in Laurel, Mississippi, Jerry lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and dedication to his family. He was a man of strong character who left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. To his family, he was the ultimate anchor, always ready with a helping hand, a bit of wisdom, or a signature chuckle. As a seasoned traveler, he visited over twenty-two countries. He was an avid outdoorsman who lived for adventure and enjoyed kayaking, white-water rafting, and camping. A die-hard Alabama football and Atlanta Braves fan, he never missed a game and he could never pass up good Mexican food and an ice cold beer.

Jerry is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Nance Dean; his son Chandler Nance (Fabiola Caruci); his daughter, Morgan Nance Saxon (Christian Saxon); his honorary daughter, Lennon Zettler; his sisters, Teena Nance and Tobi Dean Banks; and his brother, John Nance. He also leaves behind a niece, Adaiah Banks Garrett (Harmone Garrett); two nephews, Brandon Dyer and Jasper Banks; a great-nephew, Jagger Dyer; and his two cherished grandchildren, Ivy and Asa Saxon, who brought immense joy to his life as their beloved Pop Pop, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends (Mattias Becker). He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry (Choc) Nance; his grandmother, Norma Martin; his aunt and uncle, Jean and Wesley Brady; and his uncle, Dale Sellers.

In accordance with his wishes, a private cremation was held in Georgia. A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, in Meridian, Mississippi. A graveside service will follow immediately at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi. The Nance Family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM prior to funeral rites in the chapel. Any kind donations can be made to the family’s established GoFundMe at gofund.me Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Jerry’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in our hearts forever.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

Roll Tide Roll, Jerry, we’ll meet you at the endzone.
