Jesse Chavez

A funeral service for Mr. Jesse Chavez, Jr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Corbin Kill and Rev. Glen McLeod officiating. Jesse Chavez III and James Chavez will share family remarks. Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Quitman. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Jesse Chavez, Jr., age 58, of Quitman, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

Jesse was born November 7, 1966 in Houston, TX to the late Jesse and Gloria Chavez. He started in the transportation industry and eventually relocated to Meridian. Jesse met the love of his life, Rita Welborn Chavez, and they were married in 1991. He was a loving and supporting father to his two sons, Jesse III and James. He spent many years volunteering as coach for different youth athletic teams. Jesse was a long-time dispatcher for McElroy Truck Lines. He enjoyed fishing and working on old trucks, especially his 1978 Ford F-100. He was a faithful, decades long member of First United Pentecostal Church of Quitman, where he also served on the church board. A loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, Jesse's most loved title was "Pawpaw" to his beloved grandbabies.

Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife, Rita Welborn Chavez; his sons, Jesse Chavez III (Beau) and James Chavez (Ariel); his granddaughters, Lily Grace, Rosalie Faith, and Daisy Hope; his siblings, Annie Bustos (Mario), Velma Griffin (Bill), Dorrie Espinosa, Belinda Chavez, Mary Chavez, Janie James (Roger), Benny Chavez (Isabel); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Gloria Chavez.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Holifield, Clayton Holifield, Dustin Welborn, Thomas Odom, Mario Bustos, Jr., and Jose Luis Suarez. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Spooner, John Morgan, and Mark Weaver.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
