Services for Jewell Virginia Stephens will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rhett G. Payne, III officiating. Burial will be at Meridian Memorial Park. Mrs. Stephens, age 96, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Queen City Nursing Center. She will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmaw, and great grandmaw. One who loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. Mrs. Stephens was employed with the Merchants & Farmers Bank of Meridian for 34 years. Mrs. Stephens was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Her persistent and unwavering faith, her dedication and sacrifice for her family, her sweet and gentle ways, and her fearless endurance will never be forgotten. Although we grieve her absence, we rejoice, celebrate and take comfort in knowing that she is in her heavenly home. Mrs. Stephens is survived and will be greatly missed by her children; sons, Wayne Keith (Kessie) Stephens, Tommy C. Stephens, Sr. of Meridian, and Tony M. Stephens (Calie) of Collinsville; daughter, Kay Stephens Burrage of Meridian; grandchildren, Tammy K. Miska (Larry) of Meridian, Ryan Burrage (Christina) of Starkville, and Lisa Stephens of Meridian; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Cecil W. Stephens; grandson, Tommy C. Stephens, Jr.; mother, Evie Sharp; father, David Adler Winfield; sister, Mary Brown (Brownie) Meyer; and brothers, Paul Applewhite and Wesley Sharp. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Queen City Nursing Center, especially Joyce Rogers, and to the staff on Floor 5 East of Anderson Medical Center for the relentless dedication to the best care for Mrs. Stephens. Pallbearers will be Marty White, Alan Gartrell, Gerald Lockley, David Valentine, Tilton Prater and Tommy Galyean. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
