A memorial service for Jo Ann Johnson will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend Steve Owen officiating. Ms. Johnson, 66, of Meridian, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. Ms. Johnson was a retired school teacher who loved her family and friends. A gifted artist, cook, and gardener, Jo Ann loved the beauty of God's Creation. She was a National Merit Scholar in high school and continued exploring the mysteries of universe throughout her life. She found great satisfaction in work and particularly cherished her time at Meridian Community College. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed celebrations, especially holidays. She is survived by her best friend and partner of 32 years, Carol Graham, her beloved grandson, Miles Gilton, and Carol's two daughters, Liza Gilton and Sally Graham, all of Meridian. She is also survived by her brother, Alan Johnson of West Point, her niece, Danah Harpole, her nephew, Steven Johnson, and their spouses and children. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.
