Services for Joan Bailey Allen will be held Monday, July 8, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Ruffin and Reverend Ed Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen, age 83, of Meridian, was born on September 23, 1929, and died Friday, July 5, 2013. She was a loving wife of 63 years to T.E. (Ed) Allen and a loving mother and grandmother to three children and seven grandchildren. She was a lifelong resident of Meridian and a graduate of Meridian High School. Mrs. Allen graduated from Mississippi State College for Women, where she was a member of the Blacklist Social Club and a Beauty. Before becoming a homemaker, she worked as a secretary at USF&G and was a teacher at Kate Griffin. She was an active member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church for 67 years and was a member of the Ester Sunday School class. Mrs. Allen was also a member of the Athena Literary Club and the Meridian Garden Club. Survivors include her husband, T.E. (Ed) Allen, Sr.; children, T.E. (Tommy) Allen, Jr., and wife Linda, William (Bill) Bailey Allen and wife, Marilynne, and Rebecca Allen Bagby and husband, John; grandchildren, Kristie Allen and Kayla Allen, Taylor Allen and Bailey Allen, John Allen Bagby and Danner Bagby, and Megan Mathews; brother, Reverend Ed Bailey and wife, Carolyn; and devoted companions and caregivers, Ruby Boyd, Bobbi Williams, and Geraldine McDonald. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Frederick Bailey and Eunice Ferguson Bailey, and brother, Dr. Samuel C. Bailey. Pallbearers will be Sam Fulton, John Allen Bagby, Taylor Allen, Carl Watts, Fred Bailey, C.M. (Buck) Buchanan, Bob Kelly, Mack Emmons, and David Hodge. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Vincint, Tommy Galyean, Buddy Coleman, George Church, and Al Smith. The family requests memorials be made to the Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be held Monday, July 8, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
