Joann Danner Mcrae

August 18, 1933 — June 16, 2019

Funeral services for Joann Danner McRae of Daleville will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend John Branning and Reverend Eric Mabbit officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Joann, 85, died Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Born in Mobile, Alabama on August 18, 1933, to Hinton and Ada Danner, Joann became a resident of Meridian before her first birthday and contributed much to this community.

She was a devoted member of Central United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was a faithful member of the Williams Sunday School class, even while battling heart disease that ultimately claimed her body, but never her spirit.

She was also a member of several organizations including Junior Auxiliary, Athena Literary Guild and the Pushmataha Chapter of the DAR. She helped establish the Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum at Soule Steam Works.

After moving to Daleville more than 30 years ago, Joann relished country life. With her beloved dog, Lulu, faithfully at her side, they walked the farm and trails, never missing a beautiful day. Later in life, she rode her golf cart most afternoons around the property to enjoy the flowers and views of every season. She took special delight in watching her daffodils bloom in the spring and growing tomatoes in the summer.

Above all else, Joann cherished her family, and they returned the devotion in full. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim McRae; daughters Linda Lou (Tim) Allred of Meridian, Lisa (Dan) Holland of Daleville, and Leslie (Jeff) Overby of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Karen (Tim) Ray of Colliersville, Tennesee, Anna (Daniel) Wile of Meridian, Cliff (Jessica) Allred of Lakeland, Tennessee, James (Amanda) Holland of Daleville, John (Argiro) Holland of Lookout Mountain, GA, Sarah Joann Overby of Valencia, Spain and Rachel Overby of Arlington, Virginia; and great grandchildren, Lily and Turner Ray and Weyland Holland. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Scarborough of Meridian and several nieces and nephews.

Jim and Joann enjoyed traveling to many beautiful places over the years. Joann’s other favorite activities included having lunch with her daughters every Tuesday, serving pancake breakfast for her children and grandchildren on Saturday mornings, and hosting her ever expanding family each Thanksgiving.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Joann was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Building Fund. P.O. Box 1706, Meridian, MS 39302.

Pallbearers will be Mark Scarborough, Tim Ray, Daniel Wile, James Holland, John Holland and Cliff Allred.

Visitation will be held at Central United Methodist Church Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00a.m., immediately preceding the service.
