Joe Sam Newell, Sr. Services for Joe Sam Newell, Sr. will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 1:00 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Carl White officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Newell, 84, of Meridian, died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a retired insurance agent and a member of Highland Baptist Church. Mr. Newell was a Veteran of the United States Marines and a Veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife, Betty Wright Newell; children, Sandra K. Newell, Joe Newell, Jr. (Jo Jo) and his wife Judy, Randy Newell and his wife Donna, Sherry Burgess and her husband, Smokey; grandchildren, Mel Burgess and his wife Josie, Thad Burgess and his wife Lindsay, Jayson Newell, Jessica Newell, Joshua Newell, Jana Kay Newell, Addison Newell, Cassie Keys and her husband, Jamie, Heather Kealhoffer and her husband, Bubba; great-grandchildren, Jacob Samuel Kealhoffer, Hudson Everett Burgess; brothers, Ralph Newell and Harold Newell; sister, Evelyn N. Null, sister=n-laws, Irene Newell, Pat Newell and Jeanette Newell and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ebbie and Lottie Kinard Newell, sisters and brothers, John L. Newell, Leroy Newell, Rudy Newell, MaryAnn Pope, James Newell, Leon Newell, Blanche White and Hazel Newell. The family requests memorials be made to Highland Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Military. Honorary pallbearers will be The John Hart Sunday School Class.
