John Marion Bernhard, age 83, of Meridian, MS, passed away Monday, July 1st, 2024, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center.
John was born September 4th, 1940, to Drayton and Annie (nee Fox) Bernhard in Sallis, MS. His grandmother, Frances Fox was instrumental in raising John and was known as Mama to him.
He grew up in the McCool/ Kosciusko, MS area. Upon graduating high school, John moved to Jackson, MS. Then having helped farm during hot weather, he sought a job where he could stay cool and be protected from the rain. John became a printer and not just a printer, but a great one.
In 1984, he moved to Meridian, MS and opened his own business. Through this, he met Brenda, who would become his wife and best friend of 39 years.
If you knew John, you knew a fine man. He was a gentleman, a man of honor, and a great storyteller. He loved a good joke and music, especially Elvis Presley. Later in life, John developed an interest in woodworking. He also enjoyed working in the yard and sharing his love of plants and flowers.
John requested no formal funeral, so a private memorial will be held soon to honor him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Bernhard, his son Daniel Bernhard, his mother-in-law, Sharolyn Carey, brothers-in-law; Aaron Carey (Brenda Mae) and Kevin Carey (Aurora), four nephews, four great-nephews, one great-niece, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his niece.
The family wishes to thank Dr. John Halbrook, Dr. Anthony Thomas, Dr. Shea Allen, Jill Moore RN, Anna Moore RN, and the rest of the ICU team at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center, their care and compassion is so appreciated.
