Services for John R. Carroll will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Frank Thomas and Michael Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Carroll, 84, of Meridian, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Zero House. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a supervisor; railroad retired 40+ years, a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and served in World War II. He was a Mason and a Shriner and coached little league baseball in Chattanooga and Meridian. He was also an avid University of Tennessee and Atlanta Braves fan. Survivors include his daughter, Lanell Griffith and her husband, Jimmy, of Meridian; sons, John Paul Carroll of Meridian and Billy Carroll and his wife Billie Joyce of Meridian; grandchildren Ashly Carroll Vaughan, Tiffany Carroll McBryde, Melissa Carroll Dixon, Emily Carroll Barberena, John Paul Carroll Jr., Allison Carroll, Chase Griffith and Chet Griffith; 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lona Belle Carroll. The family requests memorials be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church building fund. Visitation will be Friday, from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mack McBryde, Hector Barberena, Bob Woods, Chet Griffith, Chase Griffith, and George Eagle.
