John S. Dawkins Services for John S. Dawkins will be held Thursday at 11:00 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Justin Knight officiating. Burial will be in Old Marion Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dawkins, 87, of Meridian, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his residence. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. Mr. Dawkins was a member of 1877 Engineering Aviation Battalion, serving in the India-Burma Campaign and North Africa. He was also retired as a U.S. Postal Clerk. Survivors include his wife, Helen B. Dawkins of Meridian, daughter, Sharon Chalk and her husband Franklin Sr. of Meridian, grandchildren, Stacey Jackson and her husband Jon of Meridian, Franklin Chalk, Jr. and his wife Mandie, great grandchildren, Jackson and Adeline Florey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie M. Dawkins Helton and John S. Dawkins, Sr. Pallbearers will be Franklin Chalk, Jr., Jon Jackson, Scotty Florey, Wayman Newell, Jetson Neal and Sonny Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Barney Purvis, Ken Miller, Jim Burrage and T.C. Vincent. Visitation will be held Thursday, 10:00 until service at the funeral home.
