John H. Hart

Funeral services for John Hart will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Carl White officiating, assisted by Joe Gordon and Jacob Scrimpshire. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hart, age 90, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, March 09, 2016 at Bedford Care Center of Marion.

John served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He retired after over 30 years of service from Unisys Corporation. After retirement, he spent his time renovating homes and using his carpentry skills building furniture. His giving and compassionate spirit was seen by all that knew him. He was known by friends and church members as a talented handyman, always eager to assist.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Margie Hart; children, Sheila Gordon (Joe), Mike Hart (Jill), Jane Snyder (Dan); grandchildren, Melissa Reynolds (Scott), Melanie Palumbo (John), Erin Purvis (Nathan), Shanna Scrimpshire (Jacob), Kyle Hart (Taylor), Christian Hart, John Snyder (Amy), and Adam Snyder; great-grandchildren, Hartley, Olivia, Molly, Amelia, John Rhodes, Jude, Abe, Kasen, Jackson, and Emily; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ina Hart; brothers, Edwin Hart and Rhodes Hart; and a sister, Fannie Graves.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Highland Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandson-in-laws.
