John L. "Choo -Choo" Dunn Graveside service for John L. "Choo -Choo" Dunn will be held Sunday, May 27, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Edsel Wells and Reverend Tom Belcher officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Dunn, 85, of Zero Community died Friday, May 25, 2012, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice. Mr. Dunn was born in Henderson, NC. He began his Naval career in 1944. During his 30 years in the Navy, he was stationed on-board the USS California, the USS Chloris, the USS Yorktown and the USS Constellation. He served in WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Invasion of the Philippians, as well a being a part of the Mississippi Search while stationed at NAS in 1964. After retiring from the Navy in 1975, Mr. Dunn went back to college to receive a degree from Meridian Jr. College, beginning a new career with the MS Employment Service as Veteran's Representative until he retired in 1988. "Choo- Choo" was a Mason for approximately 45 years and a member of the Long Street Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Hamasa Shrine. His biggest joy during his retirement has been his longtime coffee clubs, being a member of the 9:30 Coffee Club at Jeans Restaurant, the News Restaurant, the Checker Board Coffee Club, and the many other convenience store coffee clubs he joined with his friends each day. "Choo- Choo" was a wonderful husband, father and a true friend to all. His biggest goal in his life was to serve others. His patriotism, service and generosity have been a true inspiration. We rejoice in knowing the Senior Chief Dunn is now reporting for duty in service to the eternal father in heaven. He will be missed. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Marilyn Dunn; son, Johnny Ray Dunn and his wife Vikki of Jacksonville, Fl; daughter, Staci and her husband C.W. Garrett III of Meridian; grandchildren, John Roby Dunn of Jacksonville, FL, Kathy Harrison of Little Rock, MS, Addison and Will Garrett of Meridian; and five great-grandchildren.
