The Lord called John’s name on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 at 3:16 p.m., a fitting reminder of God’s promise to His children in John 3:16.
John was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, was a Vietnam War veteran, and dedicated another 35 years teaching at the Naval Technical Training Center Meridian where he helped to shape generations of junior sailors. John enjoyed sharing his knowledge and giving to others. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of some.
He loved sports and broke many records as a pitcher in fast pitch softball. Pitching many perfect games and no hitters, he carried the distinction of being “ALL NAVY” while on active duty. Playing with a team out of Greenville MS, he led them to a state championship which afforded them the opportunity to compete in the Regional competition in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1978. He also LOVED the game of golf and his heart was in the game even when he could no longer play, but every week he could be found watching the PGA on TV and followed the golfers closely. He was so in tune while watching he would sometimes even say what the announcer would say BEFORE the announcer said it.
He most recently strengthened his relationship with Jesus, learning how to love and surrendered his life to Christ. He was extremely eager to find a place to serve in his local congregation, often doing tasks that others never gave thought of doing.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Caynor; his sister, JoAnn Tittsworth (Gordon); his sons, John R. Caynor, Jr of Virginia and William L. Caynor (Dawn) of Wisconsin; his daughter, Vickie Leachman (Kurt) of West Virginia; his mother-in-law, Toni Lindley; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, his father-in-law, and a grandson.
