Mrs. Kidd, 94, of Pachuta and the Orange Community, died Thursday, September 10, 2026, at her home following a brief illness.
A life beautifully lived and deeply loved came to a peaceful end on September 10, 2026.
Jonie Merle Melton Kidd, born to Rube and Hattye Melton on March 6, 1932, was a resident of the Orange Community in Jasper County in Pachuta, Mississippi all 94 years of her life.
A true representation of a southern belle, she carried with her the grace, strength, and traditions of a generation that believed in doing things with care and doing them right. She believed in family first, in keeping your word, in welcoming people to your table, and the simple importance of good manners and proper grammar.
For 69 years, she and beloved husband, Bobby Ray Kidd, shared a life devoted to God and to each other. Together they raised three children and were later blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a woman of strong convictions and cherished traditions, but, above all, she was devoted to her family. Her greatest joy was found in the people she loved. She treasured family gatherings, holiday traditions, familiar recipes, old stories, and the laughter that filled a room when generations came together. One thing was absolutely certain…..No one EVER left Grandma’s house hungry. She had a way of making family feel like home, and home feel like the safest place in the whole world.
As an avid sports fan, she found just as much joy in cheering from the sidelines as she did from her living room. If she wasn’t watching one of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren compete on a field or court, she could almost always be found tuned in to a baseball, football, or basketball game. She proudly followed her beloved Atlanta Braves and Mississippi State Bulldogs and never missed an opportunity to keep up with the NBA. Whether she was sitting in the stands or watching from home, she loved the excitement of the game—and even more, she loved sharing those moments with the people she cherished most.
Her faith was the steady foundation of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and cherished her church family, finding great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. For more than 20 years, she faithfully taught Sunday School, sharing not only the lessons of Scripture but also the kindness, wisdom, and grace that defined her life. Her faith was never simply something she spoke about—it was something she lived, reflected in the way she welcomed others, cared for those around her, and offered a gentle word of encouragement. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, and service, and the many lives she touched will forever be blessed by her example.
For 94 years, she witnessed a changing world while holding on to the values that mattered most to her. As a retired school teacher, she devoted 31 years to educating and guiding young lives, leaving an impression on generations of students through her patience, wisdom, high standards, and genuine care. She believed strongly in the importance of education, hard work, good character, and doing one’s best. Her strength was quiet but unmistakable, and her presence was one that could steady her family through both celebration and sorrow. She will be remembered for her southern charm and hospitality, her generous spirit, her unwavering faith and devotion, and the traditions she so diligently kept alive. Her legacy is not simply measured in years, but in the family she nurtured, the students she taught, the lives she touched, and the love she leaves behind.
Though her chair may now be empty and her voice forever quiet, the traditions she cherished and the love she gave will continue through the generations who were blessed to call her Grandma.
She leaves behind three children: Randy (Linda) Kidd, Julie (Kevin) Parker, and Mark (Jackie) Kidd; four grandchildren: Krystal Turner, Amanda (Chris) Randall, Jonathan (Courtney) Parker, and Will (Kamrie) Kidd; and seven great-grandchildren: Kylee Raye Dewitt, Darby Dewitt, Aubree Randall, William Parker, Emma Kidd, Kyzer Kidd, and Lilly Kidd. Beth McGinty, Mandy Hill, and Sue Snowden assisted the family with caregiving during the final months of her life.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, B.R. Kidd, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rube Melton, infant brother, and grandson, Kevin Harper.
Even though she will be missed dearly, her family will carry her memory forward with gratitude, pride, and never-ending love. She was, and always will be, the heart of her family. And although their hearts are broken, they rejoice in the Heavenly reunion with her parents and beloved husband.
Mrs. Kidd will be escorted to her final resting place in the Orange Community Cemetery by pallbearers, Jonathan Parker, Will Kidd, Chris Randall, Bill Johnson, Larry Johnson, Andy Kersh, William Parker, and Kyzer Kidd. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Kidd, Dan Kersh, Sandy Gagnet, and Roger Hamburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the children or youth programs at Enterprise Baptist Church.
