Joseph Sylvester "Joe" Taylor

Graveside services for Joe Taylor will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, with Dr. John Temple officiating.

Mr. Taylor, 67, passed away August 20, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Meridian and a graduate of Meridian High School. He also attended Meridian Community College and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s from Mississippi State University. Shortly after graduating high school, he joined the United States Army where he served in Germany, as well as a combat tour in Vietnam. After serving his country, he served his community as a fireman and later as Fire Chief for the City of Meridian. After his retirement from the fire department, he was employed as an accountant for the State of Mississippi. In his later years, Joe enjoyed rehabilitating homes.

Joe is survived by his children, Josh Taylor and wife, Cyndi, Brian Taylor, and Kim Freeman Edgar and husband, Brandon; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ashley Spirson Taylor, and parents, Sylvester and Mildred Wright Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
