Memorial Services for Katherine Byrd Sides Cornett will be held Friday, May 15th, 2015, at 6:00 PM from Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church. Dr. John Temple will be officiating. Visitation will be held in the sanctuary one hour prior to service. Mrs. Cornett, 63, was a fifteen year pancreatic cancer survivor. She went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, May 12th, 2015. She loved her family and will be greatly missed by her husband, Lee Cornett; Children, Jason Keith Sides (Tiffany) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Casey Lyn Sides, of Meridian; Step son, Christopher Lee Cornett (Tammy) of Bailey; Grandchildren, Madalyn Rose Sanders, Olivia Grace Cornett, Cooper Hayes Cornett; Brother, Charles Norman Byrd Sr. (Joyce) of Arlington,Texas; Sister, Hilda Faye Boteler (Bob) of Jackson, Mississippi; Sister-in-law, Rose Cornett Morgan (Joe) ; Nieces, Kathy Byrd West (Don), Charlotte Golloway (Sunny); Nephews, Charles Norman "Chuck" Byrd Jr. (Sandra), John Phillip Byrd, Robert Kirby Boteler Jr.(Christina) as well as Aunts, Uncles, cherished friends and church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell Franklin Byrd and Mary Elizabeth Joiner Byrd. Kathy was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church where she sang in the sanctuary choir and attended the Broughton Sunday School class. She also served on the church hospitality committee, bereavement committee and cooking team. She was known for her gracious hospitality and taking meals to friends who needed a helping hand. Mrs. Cornett was a graduate of Meridian High School, class of 1969. She served as Office Manager at Custom Optical for 23 years, officiated swim meets for the United States Swimming Association for 18 years. She was a member of the Silver Cross Circle and the BMW Car Club of America. She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and cooking. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. John Payne & the nurses at Rush Specialty Hospital and Dr. Craig Dungan and his staff at Rush GI Lab & Special Procedures, and a special thanks to Paula Covington for her compassionate care in walking us through this journey.
