Mrs. Kathy Turnipseed McCarty, age 70, of Meridian, MS passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Kathy was the rock that held her family together and she loved them all dearly. Tommie and Kathy loved to go shopping together for anything that you can imagine. Kathy loved to just get out of town even if it was just for a day trip to go shopping and have a good meal. Antiquing, garage sales, thrifting, and estate sales were favorite hobbies of hers to do with Tommie. Tommie is for sure a mama's boy and Kathy was by far a boy's mama.

Kathy and her husband Gene enjoyed two trips to Honolulu, Hawaii. Kathy and her family traveled often together with most destinations including a beach view. Traveling just to visit friends was a passion of Kathy's.

Floating in the pool with her great niece and nephew, whom she considered to be her grandkids brought her great joy. She was a longtime and faithful member of Blackwater Baptist Church. She loved having her fingers in the soil and taking care of all kinds of flowers. Tommie and Kathy loved going to plant nurseries to buy new flowers for each season. She had a passion for decorating for every season the year brought.

Kathy worked for many years at Hughes Telephone Company. She retired with over 30 years of dedication from AcraNet which was previously Credit Bureau of Meridian where she would pick up documents for the public credit bulletin in Meridian. She also worked with Tommie at Lauderdale County Farm Supply in the nursery and gift shop where she loved helping people pick out beautiful plants, flowers, gifts, and decorations for their homes and as well as her own.

Kathy was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer in March of 2024. Doctors estimated she may survive a month or two after diagnosis. Kathy was headstrong in everything she went for in life, and she did not let that diagnosis deter her from living her best life. She fought to live to see her 70th birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and her 45th Wedding Anniversary onAugust 18, 2024. So, she proved all the doctors wrong. She never gave up until her last breath.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Johnnie Eugene "Gene" McCarty, her son Tommie McCarty, brother Al Turnipseed (Donna), niece, Mindi Singley (Kyle), great niece, Addi Singley, great nephew, Rett Singley, extended family members and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Fair H. Turnipseed.
