Memorial Graveside services for Mr. Kenneth Wayne Evans, PhD will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, October 20, 2018 at West Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is privileged to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Dr. Evans, 71, of Meridian, passed away August 10, 2018 at Anderson Regional Medical Center of Meridian.
Kenneth was an avid gardener and loved gardening in general. He was known by his family as a gourmet chef, being somewhat of a mixture between Julia Childs and Martha Stuart. He was passionate about all of his hobbies. He was an educator for many years, having began as a teacher and earning his PhD from Mississippi Southern University (Southern Miss) and becoming a superintendent of education for the Newton County School System.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Wayne Evans, Jr and Christopher Lewis Evans both of Philadelphia, MS; his sister Ann Hardee of Kerville, TX; two brothers, Grady Evans of Plentywood, MT, and Jamie Evans of Quitman, MS as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Evans is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Merrill and Abbigail Evans and his paternal grandmother, Beulah Evans. Brothers, Charles Raymond Evans, Sr., Alton Lamar Evans, Michael Thomas Evans; and sister Betty Jean Shirley.
The family request donations be made to The American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
