Kenneth “Steve” Gatlin
Funeral services for Kenneth “Steve” Gatlin will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Gilbert Prince officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gatlin, 64, of Daleville, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Steve was a man of many interests and talents. He was one heck of an athlete, scoring Lamar School’s first touchdown. Steve was an athletic triple threat excelling at baseball, basketball and football. He took his talents to Meridian Junior College where he was a standout catcher for the baseball team. Steve obtained his pilot’s license in 1975 and enjoyed flying his family and friends around the South. He began in the furniture business working with his father, Grady, then becoming the owner of Lott Furniture Company, Inc. until his retirement in 2006. His real passion was giving to his community by being a member of the Northeast Volunteer Fire Dept., where he served as chief. Steve was also an EMT and president of Lauderdale County Emergency Medical Responders Association. He was voted Fireman of the Year in 1990. He was a fierce protector of his girls, a loving grandfather, and a father figure to many.
Steve is survived by his wife of 38 years, Vickie Gatlin; children, Angi Ware, Autumn Wedgeworth, Abby Clark (Justin); grandchildren, Macy, Keaton and Carson Jones; Houston Wedgeworth; Fletcher and Lily Ward; and Taylor Clark. He is also survived by numerous friends, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Margaret Gatlin; Brothers, Keith Gatlin and Kerry Gatlin; and one grandson, Gatlin Ward.
The family request donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be Keaton Jones, Carson Jones, Houston Wedgeworth, Fletcher Ward, Rob Ward, Justin Clark, and Randy Wedgeworth.
