Laverne G. Banes

A graveside service for Mrs. Laverne G. Banes will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Union Baptist Church cemetery, 159 MS-514, Meridian, MS with Dr. Will Wall officiating. Interment will follow graveside rites. The Banes Family will receive guests for a time of visitation Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, 6300 Highway 39 N, Meridian, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Laverne died at her home Friday, August 21, 2026, following a brief illness. She was born on August 13, 1934 to Rosier and Ruby Lee Griffin.

She was a loving wife and mother who will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Laverne loved the Lord and was a faithful servant filling various leadership positions at the churches she attended through the years. While her greatest role was raising her daughters, she also taught kindergarten, worked as a church financial secretary and as church Hostess and Food Service Director.

She is survived by her husband, Joe M. Banes; daughters, Teresa Reedy (Max) and Suzette Banes; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Moffett; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosier and Ruby Lee Griffin; and brothers, Billy Rosier Griffin and Bobby Joe Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Laverne be made to All In! Building Fund, First Baptist Church, Meridian, MS, or a charity of your choice.
